Thirty Days, again?!

I must confess, my eating hasn't been exactly great the last few months. I'm still dissing gluten, legumes, sugar and most dairy for the most part, but the 20% end of the whole 80/20 rule has kind of veered closer to 30%. I was doing quite a bit of "paleo baking", indulging in popcorn and dairy too. I noticed that my weight-loss/body change had slowed down drastically. And to top it off, I wasn't feeling too great--tired, moody and bloated/gassy, so I decided it was probably time to get back to the basics again. I thought I'd wait until after my birthday (I turned 35 on Sunday) so that I could thoroughly enjoy my birthday goodies. I probably could've asked my family to make me a paleo cake (or make my own) but I didn't, so I ate the wonderfully delicious apple cake that my Dad made for me. And it was delicious and totally worth it. For me, a treat once in a while is A-OK, but the "once in a while" had become too common.

The

So, when I saw that Whole9 was rolling out out a new version of their Whole30 set to start on Oct 24th, I decided that is what I would do. It's basically really clean, honest (paleo) eating for just 30 days. Remember, anyone can do it for 30 days! It's really helpful for me to have a goal and timeline to get back on track for the long run. For the next thirty days I'll be enjoying plenty of meat, fish, eggs, veggies, fruit and good fats. What I won't be eating is:

  • Sugar. Not of any kind, not even honey, maple syrup or agave.
  • Processed foods. Not that I eat a ton of it anyways, but still.
  • Alcohol. I'm not a huge drinker, but I do like a margarita or glass of red wine, once in a while.
  • Grains. So, yeah that means I'm taking a break from popcorn. I'll live. ;-)
  • Legumes.
  • Dairy. I'm back to black coffee for a while and cutting out the cheese as topping.
  • White Potatoes.
I've done it before, so I know I can do it again, but better yet, I know how I felt after the last time I did it, so I'm looking forward to how good I'll feel as a result. You can totally join me if you want, too. Check out the post at Whole9 for details.

  1. I am seriously addicted to popcorn. I tried to give it up for a while, but it was so hard. I am sure you will do great!
