It's time to head to the book exchange again...

I've read quite the little pile of books lately and as a result, my "to read" pile is dwindling, so I think its time to head on in to the Book Exchange to get some new reads. The cool thing is that Lindsay is reading little chapter books and devouring them, so she could use some new books too. I absolutely love that I think she's gonna be a reader like her momma! It warms my heart. But before I take all these books in I figured I'd share them with you!

Twenty Wishes by Debbie Macomber

My mom gave me this book to read and although I wasn't too excited to read it I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. It was kind of a feel-good book and easy read. I think its part of a sort of series so I may check out other books by her.

The Boleyn Inheritance by Philippa Gregory

I really enjoy reading the historical fiction by Philippa Gregory. I read The Other Boleyn girl with my now defunct book club and was surprised to find I liked it. There is just something about the whole royalty thing that interests me. So anyways, this was a pretty good book for the most part that told the story about two more of King Henry's wives and also, Jane Rochford, the sister-in-law to Ann Boleyn.

The Alchemist's Daughter by Katharine McMahon

Yet another book set in earlier times the is about a young woman raised by her father, a scientist/philosopher/alchemist. She falls in love and so this is the story of how that turns out and some things she discovers about her family. It was a great story and well written novel.

Secrets of a Former Fat Girl by Lisa Delaney

This one is non-fiction and inspirational if you're looking to lose some weight, obvious I think from the title. Its probably the best "diet" books I've read.

The Guerney Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

This one is the gem of the ones I've read lately. Recommended by my friend Jami , who is an even more avid reader than myself. I thought the title was interesting and once I read the brief synopsis on the back I knew I needed to read it. It was a wonderful story told in a series of letters between Julie, a writer, and various people. I thought the technique was unique and I loved the story line. Its set in England after WW2 and tells the story of the little island of Guernsey during the German Occupation, which is fascinating in itself. I would highly recommend this book, it is going on my favorites list!

  1. Glad you loved the Potato Peel book. It is one of my very favorites too now. I generally hate books written as letters but this was so well done. My Aunty Linda sent it over to me along with Edgar Sawtelle. That is a very strange, interesting book. Have you read that one? I think it was described as an "American Hamlet". Worth reading anyway. Also just finished the Tower Series by Stephen King. Have you read that? It's different than his normal horror stuff. It's really good, heavy symbolism and allegory, gets much better after the first book. It keeps you thinking though about your own tower journey.
