My Vacation, Day Uno

So we made it safely and without incident to Playa del Carmen (unless you count being charged for everything on the flight down)! We spent the first Friday night in Spokane since we were flying out of there early Saturday morning. We were able to eat dinner with dear friends who moved there last summer. It was so nice to see them and catch up. It totally reminded me of how much I miss them! But they are happy and doing well, so I am happy for them.

Our flight left at 8am, so its not like we had to get up at the crack of dawn, which was nice. We flew to Phoenx, then on to Cancun. I was surprised to find myself starting and finishing a whole book on the flight to Phoenix! Usually it takes me the whole day, but this one was really good. (Sundays at Tiffany's by James Patterson.)
Upon arriving in Cancun we went through the baggage claim and customs area with only one snag--the apples I'd packed as a snack on Friday hadn't all been eaten, I ended up with one left and so they took it--can't transport fruit back and forth because of bugs, so I need to remember next trip to eat all fruit before landing in Mexico!
The place we stayed was about 30 miles south of Cancun and the airport so we'd arranged a free shuttle with the resort and it went smoothly--we didn't get sidetracked by any time share people, which is actually very easy to do when leaving the Cancun airport. Our resort was huge and kind of off on its own, but from what I saw, it was beautiful. Of course it was a Mayan and they do an great job. Only a few complaints...the beds were hard as a rock (We joked they were hurricane proof) and our room consisted of two double beds, which aren't' quite big enough for Erik and I to both sleep in, so we had to each sleep in one, which was kind of weird.
We hit a little spot by the golf course to eat that first night after getting our room, something called TacoBreak, and it was great food, although kind of pricey on drinks, we paid about 75 pesos for one coffee cup sized margarita! So the next day our mission was to find a grocery store in Playa so we could do our own thing for breakfast and lunch.
