Kera's birthday was a success, even though she missed her sister (who is having some one-on-one Gma/Papa time this week). It was pretty cute, because Lindsay checked with Kera before agreeing to stay up at the lake and Kera assured her it was fine if she missed the birthday. But then yesterday she mentioned that even though she said it was okay, she was a little bit it sad. I love it when they love each other!
Anyways, back to the birthday. She woke up and I let her open her gift from us. She was super excited to find she'd gotten an MP3 player just like her big sister.
Oh my gosh, to be that cute right out of bed in the morning! |
Then we had a whole day of prep and plain ol' waiting for her party in the afternoon. She'd requested gluten free cupcakes, so we tried our hand at "Gluten Free Ice Cream Sundae Cupcakes". The cupcake part turned out great, and so they sat on a plate waiting for the rest of the goodies that we'd do with the kids during the party.
Singing "Happy Birthday"
This doesn't look nearly as cute as the one on Elana's blog post, but the kids liked them. We topped the cupcakes (in a bowl) with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, whipped cream (freshly made) and some sprinkles. I had the cherries but none of the kids really went for them.
After cake and presents, we went out side and the girls played a bunch of random games. The sun was out but it wasn't quite warm enough for the sprinklers, which was probably a first in all the years we've been doing Kera's birthday party. (So, obviously, 7 years).
Then, after the kids had all gone home, I threw together some taco dinner for our extended family per Kera's request. Yes, she's eating a flour tortilla, but it's the first one I've bought in 4 months, so I don't feel bad at all and she loved it.
So, her birthday was really quite easy to throw together and pretty low-key, which is great. I suppose even better than that, though, is the fact that she had fun!
