It's summertime and the living is easy...

I hope you all had a great 4th of July weekend. :-) Mine was really great. We left town on Thursday bout noon and headed on over to Rock Creek. I love that one of the perks of living here is that we have so many beautiful places so close--it only took about 45 minutes to get to our favorite campground...and when you're there you have no idea that just over the mountain is the "city". Anyway, we got a great spot and found another decent one for friends coming up the next day w/ their camper. Being our first camp trip of the year I kept discovering things we'd forgotten or that we could get to make future trips better. Like, pillows!! I usually take the ones from the house but this time I remembered right about the time we were pulling off the interstate that I'd neglected to grab them. There was some light hearted fighting over the one "camp" pillow that E had left in the camper. Looks like I'll be picking up 3 more cheap ones to leave in there. And chairs....I had asked E if he grabbed them and he had, but he'd grabbed these new ones that his mom picked up at a garage sale last fall and they are kid sized...lol. Luckily our friends had brought extras....its kind of hard to sit around the campfire w/o a chair.

Within minutes of being there the girls were digging in the sand and playing in the water. Rock Creek was still pretty high but our site had just enough shallow area for the kids to play safely. It was great. Friday we drove up the road a bit looking for moose with no luck and then our friends had shown up by the time we returned to camp. It was a great group--the kids are all close enough in age to play pretty well together and us adults all get along great, too, so it was a good time. We took a little hike the next day out to these ponds where the guys fished and us "non-fishers" hung out--the kids built this rock wall which was pretty cool. I love that we can be in the middle of the wilderness and they find stuff to entertain themselves--so creative and imaginative. The weekend was full of good food (I think I got my summers fill of s'mores in two nights, ha!) and great time. One of our friends brought a cornhole game with them and so we played it one night--that is a fun game even for someone so uncoordinated as myself.

Yesterday I was ready to come home though--all the layers of sunscreen & bugspray combined with the inability to shower for 3 days made me feel pretty grubby. But eventhough I was ready to be clean I am just as ready to go out camping again. It really was such a nice time that I'm ready for more, which is a good thing!
My favorite fisherman...
