Hairdo's

I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before, but the girls and I are growing out our hair. I'm doing it because one of my goals is to grow my hair out long enough to donate. I've talked to my hairdresser about how to best do this and keep my hair healthy. I know it will probably be a 2 year project to get my hair long enough and I'm ready (I think!). The girls are growing their hair out just for now, they are very likely to change their minds tomorrow.
One of the things I've been trying to do is research different things to do with our hair as it gets longer. Basically all that means is I peruse Pinterest for cute hairstyles and pin them. One of these days I need to actually remember to pull those up when I'm doing my hair and actually use those ideas. We recently had the opportunity to attend a bridal shower that was Audrey Hepburn themed. I googled appropriate hairstyles thinking that the girls would look oh so cute w/ a Audrey Hepburn hairdo.

Lindsay was playing with a friend during the time Kera and I were primping for the shower, so she missed out on a hairdo. Actually she didn't want the same one as Kera, so she just got a ponytail anyways. Kera got this cute updo/twist thing.

Her hair was barely long enough to stay in the twist, so I used about a billion bobby pins.

And poor thing has thin hair like her mom, so there wasn't much volume to it.

But she LOVED it and I had fun styling her hair.

I did a similar style in my hair but completely forgot to take pictures! :)

Paleo, Ten Weeks

This past week was a rough one for me. I've had a cold for almost 2 weeks and it got really bad this past week. I couldn't breathe, was coughing non-stop and just felt like general crud. I'm amazed that I was even able to cook anything, actually! The cool thing is, I didn't think about not cooking. I had my menu plan and I stuck with it even on the days I felt horrible. And that says a lot not only because I was sick, but because Erik was gone the whole week for work. Here's how this past week would've gone down before I went paleo: I don't feel good, why cook? It's just the girls and I anyways, let's just order a pizza or make PB&J's for dinner. Here's how it went down instead: I don't feel good. Oh well, here's the meat I thawed and here's the recipe I picked out, let's get it cooked. The girls and I can then eat leftovers and I need lunch food anyways. So, I cooked.

It was rather frustrating being so sick and eating this way, though. I must confess, I thought my health would be so much better. But, I am still transitioning, and so maybe that's the deal. And I do have two little girls, otherwise known as "germballs with arms and legs" so who knows what kind of germs they bring home from school. It's not enough to make me stop, that's for sure, I just hope to see some changes in this in the future.

Okay, onto the goodies! :-)

Remember this chicken I cooked? Well, I followed this recipe, Caldo De Pollo, with the leftovers to make a rather delicious soup.

It was yummy and perfect for making me feel better. Chicken noodle soup with no noodles! :-)

Speaking of soup, I also whipped up a batch of quick and easy "Paleo Chili". I used this recipe as a base and tweaked it to fit what I had in my pantry.

Another fun recipe I found from the same blog, Primal Kitchen:A Family Grokumentary, was this custard one. I thought it was a fun and easy idea for a breakfast option besides eggs and smoothies. They turned out great--I like them and so does Lindsay, especially with some berries on top, but Kera didn't like them. Oh well, she's a tough one to please.

Last night me and Lindsay whipped up some treats. We wanted to make this recipe from Elana's Pantry, but didn't have any dates or walnuts, so we used figs and almonds instead. It almost killed my food processor, but I made it work and they turned out pretty good. I served them to a couple of guests and they even liked them, so I was pleased.

"Fig Almond Chocolate Rolls"

And lastly, I got my hair cut and highlighted yesterday and I was so pleased with how it turned out that I wanted to show you. It was getting rather long and shaggy, it's nice to have an actual style again. :-)

More Feathers

Well, I took my friend Aubrey's advice, and decided to go for it on the whole featherlocks thing.

They come in pairs, two little feathers attached to a tiny handful of your own hair with a metal bead that is flattened.
I picked a striped pink one paired with a striped grey one.

And I got two of them, both interspersed on the left side of my hair.

I really like them. I can wash, condition, blow dry, curl or straighten them along with the rest of my hair.
I like how they can blend in or stand out. When I straighten my hair they tend to be more noticeable than when I let it air dry curlyish and pin part of it back.
But I really do like them--they are fun!

I'm glad I stepped out of my comfort zone just a bit. :-) Now maybe I should branch out a bit in the wardrobe department and wear something other than jeans and sweatshirts!?

Feathers

The girls had haircuts the other day and each chose to have featherlocks put into their hair.

It sort of looks like Kera could be sucking her thumb in this picture, but she is not. Just hiding from Mom and the camera.
Featherlocks are sort of like extensions but not.
They have them in all these funky colors and they can be washed, combed, dried, etc and then easily taken out when you get tired of them.

I think they look really cute. I didn't capture it very well, but Kera's new haircut is extremely cute.

Lindsay's featherlocks blend in a bit more.

Neither one of them were really cooperating with me and the camera, were they?

I'm thinking about getting a couple. Do ya think it would be weird for this "old mom" to have something so....weird/funky/colorful?
